Family Fun in the Desert

January 5- The 3rd Annual Palm Desert LiveWell Festival takes place from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Palm Desert Civic Center Park. This event highlights the desert’s health and wellness services and promotes well-being through educational and interactive demonstrations. Their mission is to, “Educate our community in the way of healthy living through Physical Fitness, Nourishment, Body Work, Spiritual Peace, and Traditional Medicine”.

January 12- Star Wars Reads at the Palm Springs Public Library welcomes families to come dressed as their favorite Star Wars character and meet other Star Wars characters, make crafts, play games and more. The program will be from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Library.

January 19- 2nd Annual Run/Walk For Kids presented by the DesiStrong Foundation features a 5K, food, entertainment and a Kid Zone. This fundraising event is to help raise money to cure pediatric cancer. It will take place at the Rancho Mirage Community Park 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

January 25-27 at the McCallum Theatre, the touring company of Wizard of Oz will be presented with five different shows for your enjoyment. This musical production celebrates the 1939 MGM film on stage.

February 16 – 24 The Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival takes place in Indio on the fairgrounds located at 82-503 Hwy 111. Admission to the popular annual event includes live entertainment, exhibits, carnival rides and food vendors featuring tasty date treats.

February 16 and 17- The Palm Desert Greek Festival is held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church from 11:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. both days. This fun event has music, dancing, authentic Greek food, unique shopping and a Kid Zone. The church is located at 74-109 Larrea in Palm Desert.

Also on February 16th, is Fairytales and Frogs Day at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens from 9:00 a.m. – noon. Dress up as your favorite storybook character, visit with strolling princesses, enjoy a tea party, dance at the ball and more. February 27th- 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. All ages are welcome at Wildflower Workshops presented by the National Monument staff at Bureau of Land Management field office, 1201 Bird Center Drive in Palm Springs. Participants will learn the names of common wildflowers, their adaptations for pollination and where to see the most blooms. The workshop provides hand lenses and field guides to design your own hunt for wildflowers. Free, but must RSVP. Look up “Wildflower Workshop Palm Springs” on eventbrite.com or call 760-862-9984.
