Not all kids on the autism spectrum like to trick-or-treat. First of all, we teach our kids not to talk to or accept candy from strangers… but NOW, one day a year, all the sudden, it’s okay?? For my son in particular, Halloween is stressful and unpredictable. He doesn’t like dressing in a costume or shaking down the neighbors for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Fortunately, there are some fun Fall alternatives to trick-or-treating in the desert that are fun for the whole family and ASD kids alike. The events that follow are excellent ways to celebrate the spookiest time of the year together. Call ahead if you are concerned about crowds. Don’t forget headphones/earbuds for the auditory-sensitive kiddos.
