If you could combine air conditioning when it’s 120 degrees outside, family fun and problem-solving, wouldn’t you?  For one hour, The Escape Room Palm Springs provided just this for my family in their amazing Merlin’s Magic School that is designed with kids in mind.

All of the sets and puzzles are made locally and their staff is behind the scenes running each of the six rooms. The apprehension one of my sons initially had about being “locked” in a room (it’s never locked) subsided quickly due to their thoughtful arrangement of the room, and the fact that he was reassured about the aforementioned and totally intrigued by all of the puzzles and the challenge.

Our Game Master, Mo, was excellent as our host and imperative to our success, as I found our kids to be smarter and more logical than their mom.  The back-story was entertaining and the boys understood their goal in “escaping” and they listened intently as Mo described the rules like “if you can’t lift something with just two fingers, it’s not meant to be lifted” and my personal mom-favorite, “Don’t stand on any chairs.”

They each got a magic wand and off they went to let their imaginations and logic run wild.  There were lights and props and puzzles and lots of surprises that kept them engaged even at the young ages of 6 and 8.

The hour inside of the room raced by as we watched the clock and reminded each other, ‘We only have “X” more minutes!”  Mo helped us when we needed assistance and I am happy to say that we escaped the room. I’m even happier to say that my kids talked about it non-stop for the rest of the week, and still do, and that we were able to create yet another fun and unique memory together.  The Escape Room Palm Springs is located at 2500 North Palm Canyon and reservations are recommended and can be made online or at www.escapeps.com or (760) 779-8888.
