If you have kids, you have teachers. And if you have teachers, you’ve no doubt contemplated about teacher’s gifts for the holidays. Wanting to celebrate the influence these men and women have on our kids’ lives without giving them something cheesy is always a struggle. Here are some quick gifts that you can assemble that any teacher will love and actually use:

Nail Kit: Using a mason jar or a basket or another like container, fill with nail polishes of your choice, an emery board, hand lotion, cuticle cream, a small bottle of nail polish remover, clippers or similar items. For a male teacher, eliminate the polish piece and include more of the lotions and such. Use holiday ribbon to create a bow and attach a tag that says, “You are TOE-tally awesome” or “We looked for the perfect teacher- NAILED IT!”

A Night In: Create a basket or box with microwave popcorn, movie-style candies, a Netflix gift card, slipper socks and a candle for a “Teacher’s Night In” gift to encourage their rest and relaxation.

Holiday Themed: Using a holiday themed oven mitt as your container, select items like cookie cutters or candies and cooking utensils and the like and fill it up. Attach a tag that says something like, “I have to ad-MITT that you are the best teacher!” You can also do a cookie-making basket for them to use over vacation with cookie cutters, a holiday tray, rolling pin, holiday sprinkles, flour, sugar, baking soda, and so on.

Color Themed: Using a color as your theme can result in really cute and thoughtful gifts. For example, think of the following tags: “ORANGE you glad it is Christmas Vacation?”, “I’m tickled PINK that you’re my teacher”, “You are my sunshine” (yellow) or “I am LUCKY to have you as my teacher” (green). You can keep one of these themes in mind now and start picking up little items over the next couple of months that fit and then present them all in a basket. Some examples include candies, Chapstick, gift cards, snacks, pens and pencils, coffee cups, jewelry, and so on.

For those who do not have the time or energy to DIY, a nice plant is a great gift and you can attach a tag that says, “Thanks for helping me GROW.” You could also buy some of the pre-bottled coffee drinks and put them in a basket with a tag that says, “C- is for Caffeine”, or use the same tag for a coffee mug with a coffee shop gift card inside of it. Another fun idea is to buy scratchers and present them with a tag that says, “I LUCKED out with you as my teacher!” Movie tickets or restaurant cards with a tag saying, “To enjoy over vacation” are always appreciated as well.

There are lots of other ideas on Pinterest and on line, but know that teachers are appreciative of anything that expresses a family’s happiness with them. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to come up with something really nice.
